Adam, Carl Ferdinand (1806, 1865)

Carl Ferdinand Adam (1806-1865) was born in Dresden, the son of the teacher and organist Johann von Zehmen. At the age of 12 he entered the famous Dresdner Kreuzschule where he studied voice and piano.

Thereafter he studied law at the University of Leipzig, but afterwards became a music teacher in Dresden. In 1834 he founded the Dresden male choir "Orpheus". In 1842 he founded with his friend Julius Otto the choir "Dresdner Liederkranz".

In 1844 Adam was appointed cantor in Leisnig and founded another male choir, the "Liederkranz". For nine years he was the first songmaster and led the choir to great success.
