Winfried Adelmann was born in Hamburg. He studied pedagogy in Kiel and later taught school (13 years as co-director).
He studied voice with Prof. Hans Kagel und Aufbaustudium an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, and in May 1993 received his vocal pedagogy diploma there. Since April 1995 he has taught voice (and since 2001 also vocal pedagogy) at the Sängerakademie Hamburg.
In July 1999 he received his Doctor of Musicology degree in the area of Music Pedagogy at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg; he wrote his dissertation on the possibilities available to children's voices. (www.verlagdrkovac.de) Since then he has been an active lecturer at congresses at home and abroad.
Since the winter semester 2006 he has been Professor of phonetics, vocal sciences, vocal hygiene and phonology at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg.
He concertizes mainly in the northern part of Germany, especially the (Evangelist)roles in the great oratorios, cantatas and masses of Bach, Händel, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Rossini, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Bruckner, Bizet, Dvorak, Saint-Saens and Janacek.
He also performs lieder evenings of the famous song cycles.
He has also performed on various independent stages (title role in Mozart´s Titus and Tamino in Mozart´s "Die Zauberflöte", Caramello in „Eine Nacht in Venedig“ by Strauss), musical theater at the Junger Forum in Hamburg (Basilio in Mozart´s "Le nozze di Figaro", Remendado in Bizet´s "Carmen", Mann mit dem Esel in Orff´s "Die Kluge" etc.) and in the chamber opera Schloß Rheinsberg in 1993.
