Renowned Venetian violinist and prolific composer, Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751) produced more than 50 operas, most of which were staged in Venice, and secular instrumental works.
Most of Albinoniās operas have been lost, but a few arias from them remain. The set of twelve concertos for strings, Op. 5, the twelve Oboe Concertos, Op. 7, the set of a dozen varied concertos, Op. 9 and the Violin Concertos, Op. 10, are notable.
The popular "Adagio in G minor" was arranged, or rather reconstructed, for organ and strings by the 20th century Italian musicologist, Remo Giazotto, from a six-bar fragment of music by Albinoni.
