Paolo Agostini (1593-1629) became maestro di cappella at the Vatican in 1627, but died only two years later. His compositions are inventive and creative and were often performed in his lifetime. Aside from a few collections of masses his melodious, strongly contrapuntal vocal music was never printed, but his manuscripts are still extant.
