Max Reger’s lullaby *Mariä Wiegenlied* is characterised by a dense, chromatically rich harmony which, despite the calm lulling rhythm, maintains a subtle inner tension. It is also noteworthy that the piano accompaniment does not merely serve a supporting function, but, through its independent voice leading, contributes significantly to the tonal differentiation and the subtle interpretation of the text.
