Scott Joplin : Maple Leaf Rag

Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag” combines a strictly ordered march structure with syncopated melodies, giving the piece a sense of both control and danceability. It is also striking that the left hand provides an almost mechanical foundation for long stretches, while the right hand creates the impression of spontaneous rhythmic freedom.
