The piece comes from the collection "36 Original Dances for Piano", also called "Trauerwalzer" ("Mourning Waltz") and ascribed to Beethoven. Later it formed the central music in the operetta "Das Dreimäderlhaus" ("The House of Three Girls") by Heinrich Berté
