Becker, Albert (Ernst Anton) (1834, 1899)

Albert (Ernst Anton) Becker (1834-1899) was a German composer of the Romantic period. From 1853 to 1856 he studied composition in Berlin with Siegried Dehn and remained there as a music teacher and later as a composition teacher at the Scharwenkas Conservatory and the Academy of Arts. His most famous student was Jean Sibelius, whom he taught counterpoint from 1889 to 1890. In 1892 he rejected the position of successor to Wilhelm Rust as Thomas cantor in Leipzig.
