My name is Josef Berens, born 1936 in Giesdorf, County Bitburg-Prüm in Germany. My father Michael Berens was the organist of our parish church in Rommersheim. From him I received my first musical instruction, and was allowed to substitute for him at the organ at the age of 15.
I received a concentrated musical education from the church musician Josef Monter, who was for many years organist and choir director at the Basilika in Prüm and made a name for himself with numerous compositions. For over 50 years I played organ for our parish. Since retiring from my main job ten years ago I have been organist and choir director of the Protestant congregation in Prüm.
