Hildach, Eugen Gustav Gottfried -

Eugen Gustav Gottfried Hildach was born November 20th, 1849 in Wittenberg and died July 27th, 1924 in Berlin.

He was raised by his grandparents in Berlin and attended the Royal Realschule. He also attended the Baugewerkschule in Holzminden, but changed to musical studies at the age of 24. He studied with Frau Dreyschock in Berlin, a well-known singing teacher of the time. In 1878 he married his fellow student Anna Schubert and settled in Breslau (modern-day Poland). Both were appointed teachers in Dresden in 1880. There they also began to organize Lieder evenings and oratorio performances. He sang baritone, she soprano. From 1886 to 1904 they only toured.

In 1888 the couple returned to Berlin and dedicated themselves completely to recital singing. They disseminated piano songs in the style of the salon music of the end of the nineteenth-century on their many concert tours. In 1904 they moved to Frankfurt am Main, where they lived until 1916. They opened a school for solo voice there. In 1909 he was appointed professor in Berlin.

Eugen Hildach died on the 27th of July, 1924 in a sanatorium in Berlin-Zehlendorf and was buried in the Dreifaltigkeitsfriedhof (Cemetery of the Holy Trinity) in Berlin. Anna Hildach returned to Frankfurt am Main where she lived into the 1930s. The couple had no children.
