(Wilhelm) Gustav Beckmann (1865-1939) was a German church musician. He was born in Bochum and was a student at the Royal Institute for Church Music in Berlin. In 1893 he started teaching at the Realgymnasium in Essen. From 1894 until 1935 he conducted the Protestant church choir of Essen-Altstadt, and after 1896 was also the organist at the Kreuzeskirche (Cross Church) in Essen. In 1899 he founded the Evangelischer Organistenverein (Deutscher Kirchenmusiker. In 1899 he founded the Evangelischer Organistenverein (Protestant Organists' Association) for the Rhineland and Westphalia. In 1908 he founded the Verband evangelischer Kirchenmusiker Preußens (Prussian Protestant Church Musicians' Association) in Berlin and in 1915 the magazine »Der evangelische Kirchenmusiker« ("The Protestant Church Musician"). He died in Essen.
