Ascher, Leo -

Leo Ascher was the son of a parasol manufacturer and studied piano at the Conservatory for Music in Vienna, Austria. He was mentored by Hugo Reinhold and Louis Thern and received teaching in composition from Robert Fuchs and Franz Schmidt. In addition, he studied law and completed his doctorate in 1904 at Vienna University as a Doctor of Law. His first operetta ''Vergelt's Gott'' was first performed in 1905. From 1905 until 1932, he composed over 30 operettas.
