André, Johann Anton -

612005222928.jpg
Johann Anton André (1775-1842), German composer and publisher, was the son of the composer Johann André (1741-1799) and well-trained in music theory and practice and didactic methods. This made him a musical pedagogue of note and led also to theoretical treatises on the science of composition. In 1799 he took over the music publishing house his father had founded and soon bought from Constanze Mozart the manuscripts left by her husband, publishing the first comprehensive catalog of his compositions.

He also wrote operas, symphonies, masses, songs, sonatinas for piano students and an unfinished "Lehrbuch der Tonsetzkunst" (Method of Composition) in two volumes.
