Reimund Merkens (born in 1959) has played classical piano since he was a child. Although he still loves playing classical scores, his interests have broadened to include other styles, mainly ragtime, blues and jazz.
He has been taking voice lessons for the past year and has now mastered a baritone/tenor range of two octaves. He regularly performs pop and jazz ballads, musical numbers and light classical compositions with singer Diana van den Hoogen. In the past year he has composed several pop ballads for her.
They now have numerous pop ballads in their repertoire: by Bryan Adams, Robbie Williams, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Witney Houston, Billy Joel, Bon Jovi and many more, as well as themes from musicals such as Cats, Phantom of the Opera, the Lion King, but also classical arias such as „La Habanera“ from Carmen, „Nessun Dorma“ from Turandot or „Ave Maria“ by Schubert. At the moment we are working on some jazz songs such as „As Time goes by“ and „Ain’t no sunshine“.
