Marc-Antoine Charpentier : Te Deum (choir score)
Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s “Te Deum” in D major, H. 146, is conceived as a large-scale sacred work for soloists, choir, and orchestra, and makes deliberate use of the sonic splendor of trumpets and timpani to musically express festive gratitude. The famous Prélude (“Marche en rondeau”) opens the composition with a strictly rhythmic gesture that clearly foreshadows the representative character of the entire work within just a few bars.
