Rainer Pecher was born in 1928 in Chotieschau, Egerland, near Pilsen, in the western part of what was then Czechoslovakia. As a child he learned to play violin and piano and started composing at the age of 13. His family was forced after World War II to resettle in Northern Hessia (northwestern Germany).
During his pedagogical studies he also took courses in harmony and counterpoint. His compositional style was most influenced by J.S. Bach, Paul Hindemith and Distler.
In addition to teaching in Gemünden(Wohra), Barcelona, and Frankenberg(Eder) he has always directed choirs and composed numerous songs, choral movements, motets, cantatas and chamber music for them. Some of these compositions have spread throughout Germany, thanks to choir members and friends.
