Franz Xaver Murschhauser (1663-1738) was a German musician and composer. He was born in Saverne, in the Alsace region of France, and studied music in Munich with Johann Kaspar Kerll. Afterwards he was organist for the rest of his life at the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) in Munich.
He composed works for organ, ten psalms (five a cappella) and a Laudate. His "Octi-tonium novum organicum" (1696) contains verse cycles in the eight church modes framed by Prelude and Finale, which may be alternated with psalms and magnificat, as was common in the Catholic southern German practice of the time. He also composed cycles of variations for Christmastime, including the "Variationes super Cantilenam 'Last unß daß Kindelein wiegen' per imitationem Cuculi", with constant cuckoo calls. His "Prototypon longo-breve" appeared in two parts in 1703 and 1707 and includes preludes and postludes.
