Dubois, Théodore 08/24/1837 - 06/11/1924

François Clément Théodore Dubois (1837-1924) was a French composer. He was born in Rosnay and studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Antoine François Marmontel, François Bazin, François Benoist and Ambroise Thomas. In 1861 he won the Prix de Rom and in 1869 became the choral conductor at Sainte-Clotilde. From 1877 until 1896 he was organist at the Madeleine. From 1871 on he was teacher of harmony and from 1896 on director of the Conservatoire.



Dubois composed five operas, a ballet and two oratorios (The Seven Words of Christ and Paradise Lost), orchestral suites, a piano concerto, symphonic poems, string quartets, masses, motets, piano and organ compositions and songs.
