Johann Wilhelm Furchheim (1640-1682) was a German violinist and composer. He received his musical education at the court orchestra of Dresden, where he was born, and remained loyal to this ensemble his entire life. He was an instrumentalist there and towards the end of his life became concertmaster and second kapellmeister.
He was one of the first composers in Germany to write for violin: this instrument's triumphal procession came late in Germany. He composed several works for strings and five three- to five-part violin sonatas.
