Hesse, Adolf Friedrich 08/30/1809 - 08/05/1863

Adolf Friedrich Hesse (1809-1863) was a German organist and composer. He was born in Breslau, where he studied with the organists Friedrich Wilhelm Berner and Ernst Köhler and became first organist at the Bernhardin Church in 1831. He was considered an important organist in Germany and excited admiration in Paris and London through his virtuoso pedal playing. In Breslau he also conducted the symphony concerts of the opera orchestra. His students include Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens, who in turn taught Alexandre Guilmant und Charles-Marie Widor.
