Joseph Küffner (1776-1856) was a German musician and composer. He was born in Würzburg, Franconia, in modern-day Germany. He was active as a violinist in the Würzburg court orchestra and also performed as a soloist. When Franconia was annexed to Bavaria he was temporarily removed from court service. He took over the post of musicmaster in a Bavarian regiment and received the task of reorganizing military music. He dedicated himself as composer not just to military music but also to "Harmoniemusik", which was very popular at the time. He also wrote numerous pieces for guitar and in particular several dozen trios for two instruments and guitar.
