Franz Xaver Engelhardt was a German Catholic priest, musician, choir director and composer. He was the musical director of the Regensburg cathedral from 1891 until his death in 1924 and was responsible for the Regensburger Domspatzen, who he took on a concert tour to Prague. From 1903 on he was also an important figure in the hierarchy of the bishopric of Regensburg.
The most well-known of Engelhardt’s compositions is the song "Wenn ich ein Glöcklein wär`" .
