August Neithardt was a German bandleader and composer. He received a musical education from the court organist, Ebhardt, and was named bandleader for the Prussian military in 1816. In 1838 he became the director of the Berliner Cathedral choir. With the choir, later known as the Royal Cathedral Choir, he travelled to London in 1850. He developed a great appreciation for English choral and folk music, to which he often added German lyrics. He died in Berlin after a long illness.
