Karol Szymanowski was born deaf in Tymoszówka, in 1882, a son of Stanisław Korwin-Szymanowski and Anna Szymanowska. At 7, Karol learned to play the piano and made his first attempts to compose. In Jelisawetgrad, 1900, he graduated from high school and continued in his musical studies at the Music Academy in Warsaw. He joined a group of young Polish composers which founded their own publishing house.
