Christian Gottlob August Bergt (* 17 June 1771 in Oederan near Freiberg; † 10 February 1837 in Budissin, now Bautzen) was a German organist and composer. Bergt was born the son of the town musician in Oederan. In 1784 he attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden. From 1791, he studied Protestant theology at the University of Leipzig. After passing his exams in 1794, he initially became a tutor for the children of the superintendent at St Thomas' Church in Leipzig. At the same time, he studied music and was appointed organist at St Peter's Cathedral in Bautzen in 1802 and soon afterwards also became a music teacher at the local teacher training college. He held these positions until his death.
Bergt's extensive oeuvre, only some of which has been published in print, includes both secular and sacred music, with the latter having the greatest impact and still being performed today. Due to the character of Bautzen Cathedral as a simultaneous church, Bergt created church music for both the Protestant and Catholic denominations.
