Żeleński, Władysław Marcjan Mikołaj 07/06/1837 - 01/23/1921

Władysław Marcjan Mikołaj Żeleński was a Polish composer. He studied in Krakow and Prague and later in Paris. After teaching music theory at the ''Warsaw Academy of Music'' from 1872 to 1881, he directed the ''Academy of Music'' in Krakow which was founded in 1888. His works include 4 operas, 2 symphonies and overtures, 1 piano concerto, masses, cantatas and motets as well as chamber music, organ and piano pieces and some songs. (His son, the poet Tadeusz Boy-Zelinski was murdered by the German occupiers during the mass murder of 1941 in Lviv, together with other university lecturers from the University of Lviv).
