Duparc was one of the first students of César Franck at the Jesuit College of Vaugirard. However, he wan unable complete his music studies. In 1868, he published his first compositions. In 1871, he founded, together with Camille Saint-Saëns, the 'Société Nationale de Musique'. The symphonic poem 'Lenore' (1875), an early orchestral work, made him famous overnight. Unfortunately, it is considered his major work, which he (together with Charles Gounod, Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy) deeply influenced the Frence music world in the second half of the 19th century.
