He was born in Breslau (former Pomerania) where he started piano lessons as a child and received his musical education. He studied composition with Ernst August Völkel. In 1937 he was drafted for military service and witnessed the end of the war in American captivity.
After the war he had an engagement as a violist at the opera in Augsburg but after 2 years he changed as a violinist and pianist to the ''Südwestfunk Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden'' (Southwest Symphony Orchestra in Baden-Baden).
He composed piano and chamber music, set many radio plays to music for the ''Südwestfunk'' (radio station-SWF), wrote numerous arrangements for plays and various chamber music groups.
