Hans Michel Schletterer, also Hans Michael Schletterer (* 29 May 1824 in Ansbach; † 4 June 1893 in Augsburg) was a German musician and music critic. After studying with Louis Spohr in Kassel, and later with Ferdinand David and Ernst Friedrich Richter in Leipzig, he became music director in Zweibrücken in 1847, music director of the university in Heidelberg in 1854, Kapellmeister of the Protestant church in Augsburg in 1858 and director of the music school there in 1866. He himself directed the oratorio society he founded in Augsburg in the same year very successfully for over 20 years.
He vehemently rejected musical developments à la Wagner and thus exposed himself to such massive criticism that he resigned in complete bitterness in 1893 and died soon afterwards.
Operettas, choral songs and psalms set to music are Schletterer's musical legacies. In 1878, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of philosophy in Tübingen for his treatises on music theory.
