Emma Louise Ashford was an American musician and composer born in Newark, Delaware. She studied church music abroad and married John Ashford of Vanderbilt University, Tennessee in 1867.

Mrs. Ashford was organist and choir director in Nashville churches for many years, editor of "The Organist" and won many prizes in various international singing and hymn contests. She wrote over six hundred hymns, sacred songs, duets, and cantatas, as well as many works for organ and piano.
