Hermann Langer (* July 6, 1819 in Höckendorf; † September 8, 1889 in Dresden) was a German organist and university music director of the University of Leipzig.

Langer studied music and philosophy in Leipzig. In the summer of 1840 he became a member of the Leipzig University Singing Society at St. Pauli (now the German Singing Society). In 1843 he became university music director and organist and remained in this position for several decades. At the same time he was conductor and director of the university singing society "Paulus", at times he conducted the Leipzig music society "Euterpe". Between 1853 and 1887, as Lector publicus, he also organized, among other things, exercises in liturgical singing and general music theory, as well as organ courses. In 1859 he was appointed Dr. phil. h. c. by the university, and in 1882 Royal Professor. From 1887 he was royal Saxon organ-building supervisor in Dresden.

Langer was editor of the Musikalische Gartenlaube as well as the writings Erster Unterricht im Gesang and Repertoriums für den Männergesang. The composer Albert Dietrich dedicated his Opus 1, Liederkreis von Carl Gärtner für eine Singstimme und Pianoforte, published in Leipzig in 1851, to Hermann Langer.
