Karl Suessdorf (born April 28, 1911 in Valdez, Alaska; † February 1, 1982 in Riverside, California) was a U.S. composer and songwriter.
Karl Suessdorf's best-known work is the jazz standard ''Moonlight in Vermont'' for which he wrote the music and John Blackburn the lyrics. The piece was made famous in 1944 by Margaret Whiting, whose theme song it became. Together with Blackburn, Suessdorf also wrote the piece ''I Wish I Knew''. Suessdorf also wrote the music for the piece ''Susquehanna'', best known in its recording by Oscar Peterson.
He also collaborated with lyricists Leah Worth and Lloyd Sloan on the song ''Did Anyone Ever Tell You, Mrs. Murphy''; the track was recorded by Perry Como in 1949.
Suessdorf and Worth also contributed lyrics together to the 1948 Benny Carter-composed piece ''Key Largo''. In addition to composer Benny Carter himself, this standard has also been recorded by Sarah Vaughan, Marian McPartland, Ira Sullivan, Ella Fitzgerald, Chris Connor and Carmen Lundy.
