Ladd, Andrew 01/01/1960

Andrew Ladd was born in 1960 in Canterbury, Kent, Great Britain, the son of a politician. He started playing the piano at age 11, and by age 14 had begun composing. At age 32 he had already written six symphonies, six string quartets, six piano sonatas and many other pieces. But because he was convinced that he had not yet mastered his craft, he destroyed all of his scores in 1992 and began studying composition at Doncaster College with Andrew Clark. In November 2000 he presented for the first time his new, authorized works at a concert in New York.



Ladd is married and has two children and one grandchild. He is a great admirer of the American composer Alan Hovhaness.
