Attaignant, Pierre 01/01/1494 - 01/01/1552

Pierre Attaignant (1494-1552) was a French printer and editor. Beginning with a collection of Chansons dated 1527/1528, he used moveable text-setting and a single printing, a method which he probably invented. The royal privileges which protected his music books were renewed three times for approximately a year, after the first book was printed in 1531 and 1537.



He became the king's official music printer and librarian. His publications include several books of pieces for lute, fourteen books of motets and over thirty-six books of chansons, as well as numerous re-editions.
