Teichmann, Hans 12/16/1916 - 05/19/2007

Hans Teichmann was born in 1916 in Leipzig, Germany to a musical family. His father was teacher, cantor, organist and gifted composer, who composed a series of charming children's operas including "The Emperor's New Clothes."
He received his first piano lessons from his grandfather, also a teacher and church musician.

He studied music at the Leipzig Musikpädagogium in Leipzig and later at the Hochschule für Musik also in Leipzig. He was a soldier for six years and for three years prisoner of war in Depot 148 Chambonnet near Saint Étienne. There he had the duty, with several other comrades, of intellectually and culturally caring for his fellow prisoners. He led the camp orchestra and choir. During this time he composed an oratorio on the Passion of Christ, Christmas music, a St. Mark's Passion, Solo songs, choruses and chamber music. Imprisonment was a blessed time for his professional development. He was released in 1948.

His first position as church musician was in 1948 at the Immanuelkirche in Leipzig-Propstheida. There he built an effective choir. In 1955 he was asked to join the Nathanaelkirche in Leipzig-Lindenau, where he worked until retirement with great joy and many blessings. Till his death he was an avid concertgoer at the Gewandhaus and St. Thomas church in Leipzig.
