Stobaeus, Johann 07/06/1580 - 09/11/1646

Johann Stobaeus (1580-1646)was a German composer and a pupil of Eccard. He spent his working life in Königsberg, as cantor at the cathedral from 1603 and court Kapellmeisterfrom 1626. He composed jointly with Eccard, and issued Eccard's last and probably best-known publication--Preussische Festlieder--in two parts in 1642 and 1644 after Eccard's death, and also published his own motets, including chorale motets in which the imitative and rhythmically free lower parts do not obscure the chorale melody on top.
