Valentin Haussmann (1550-1614) was a German composer. With his orchestral dance movements (printed in 1598) he was actually the first instrumental composer in Germany. He had no steady job as a musician but traveled as a freelancer around the country. He also supplied editions of Italian compositions with his own German texts and so promoted the spread of Italian music in Germany.
