Adam Krieger (1634-1666) was a German composer and church organist. He studied with Samuel Scheidt in Halle and continued his studies after 1650 in Leipzig. In 1655 he assumed the position of organist in Leipzig's Nikolaikirche. His oeuvre was concentrated in figured music. He is reported to have grounded a "Collegium Musicum" in Leipzig. In 1657 Elector Johann Georg II called him to the Saxon court, where he taught the elector's daughter harpsichord. In 1658 he was appointed court organist.
Krieger composed and versified numerous songs. His first collection of songs appeared in 1657. They are marked by simple folklike melodies. His most famous song is "Nun sich der Tag geendet hat," which may be found in the hymnal of the Lutheran church.
