Widmann, Jörg: Étude digitale
für Violoncello
Jörg Widmann composed this short piece in 2015 for the 90th birthday of Pierre Boulez. In this piece, the cello is used in an anything but classical manner: The hands hit the fingerboard, the fingers play tremolos on the body of the cello or snip the strings. Free rhythms and figurations alternate with dance-like themes and improvisational elements while the player takes up unusual positions sometimes the instrument lies on his or her lap, sometimes he or she carries it through the room. This listening and viewing experience is now available in a graphically demanding edition.
