Vogt, Gustave: Air varié
A professor at the Paris Conservatory for nearly forty years while simultaneously pursuing a career as an instrumentalist in the leading Parisian orchestras, Gustave Vogt (1781-1870) was a celebrated virtuoso of his time. His Air varié en sol majeur (Air varié en sol majeur) holds a special place among the many compositions he dedicated to the oboe or English horn. Indeed, in 1827-1828, Gustave Vogt made this piece his principal musical calling card on Parisian stages, as well as in concerts given in London. It is clear that the piece seems to have lost none of its charm, since it has seduced the oboe students of the HEMU Haute école de musique de Lausanne and the Conservatoire de Paris who within the framework of the IREVOGT research project (2024-2026) selected it from among the many pieces of the oboist composer so that it could be the subject of a modern edition. Now it's up to you to bring this beautiful piece back to life by interpreting it with sensitivity and virtuosity.
