Staar, René: Gemini A12

In the Duo A12 for violin and oboe a musical process is initiated which, beginning with the unison fusion of the two timbres, leads into a sonic and articulatory spectrum of oboe staccatos and violin glissandi. One departs from a unity structured by the bordering tones of the oboe and arrives at the total independence of the two instruments. This material—extremely difficult for the performers in terms of coordinating the two parts—was composed for the principal oboist of the Vienna Philharmonic, Gottfried Boisits.
