Laßmann, Moritz: Helix

Helix, dedicated to the accordionist Nepomuk Golding, was premiered in September 2025. Inspired by the image of a spiral, the piece unfolds as a continuous upward motion from the lowest to the highest registers of the accordion. Alternating rhythmic sections and rising gestures create a sense of constant rotation and growth, culminating in an energetic fortissimo. Technically demanding due to its requirements in articulation, bellows control, polyphony, and dynamic shaping, Helix showcases the accordion’s wide expressive range and virtuosic potential.
