Johann Pachelbel : Canon in D for String Quartet
The canon in D major is based on a constantly repeated bass sequence, over which the violin parts are built up in a staggered entry, creating a steady densification of the musical material. It is striking that many melodic sections are composed of similar rhythmic building blocks, which means that despite the variations, a uniform, structured progression remains audible.
