Aus Deutschland stammender amerikanischer Komponist, Organist, Lehrer und Musik-Verleger. Er wurde in Frankfurt am Main geboren und erhielt als Sehbehinderter seine Ausbildung am Pennsylvania Institute for the Blind in Philadelphia. Hier betätigte er sich dann auch 17 Jahre lang als Musiklehrer und unterrichtete Komposition, Klavier und Geige. Von 1885 bis 1925 war er Organist der John Stetson Mission Sunday School und betrieb in Philadelphia eine eigene Verlagsanstalt. Von ihm stammen heute noch zu hörende volkstümliche weltiche und geistliche Lieder ("Kentucky Babe", "Evening Bells", "The Nativity", "The Incarnation", "Light Out of Darkness", "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus", "Some Day He'll Make It Plain", "Let the Gospel Light Shine Out").
