“Missa” is the name given to a genre of musical compositions based on the texts of the Holy Mass in the Catholic liturgy. Examples include the Kyrie eleison, Gloria, Credo, and Sanctus. In addition to the fixed texts (Ordinarium), some compositions also set to music certain texts that vary according to the liturgical year or occasion (Proprium).
