Weiss, Roland 06/20/1938

Roland Weiss (born 1938) studied church music in Bayreuth, Germany, and was church music director and regional cantor from 1963-2003 at the Church of St. Bartholomew in Pegnitz, Germany. He also taught music in the local school. In 1972 he founded the Pegnitzer Sommerkonzerte (Pegnitz Summer Concerts). In 1979 his "Orgelschule für den Anfangsunterricht" ("Organ Method for Beginners") was published by Breitkopf & Härtel. In 1981 he was awarded the Culture Prize of the County of Bayreuth. In 1993 he was awarded the silver citizens' medal of Upper Franconia for extraordinary service. In 2002 he was appointed organ-building expert by the craftsmen's guild of Upper Franconia, and awarded the golden citizens' medal of the city of Pegnitz.
