1849 was born in Hessberg, near Hildburghausen, Germany.
From 1868 until 1884 he taught in Liebenstein.
In 1884 he took over the direction of the church choir in Salzung and became church music director in Royal Saxon Meining.
In 1906 he went into retirement as a result of a hearing complaint. He became active as a chronicler of the region's music history. He died in Meiningen in 1932.
