Andrea Csollány (born 1964) studied piano, music theory and ear training at the Musikhochschule Mannheim. She then continued her studies: piano in Mannheim with Michael Hauber and Rudolf Meister, composition in Bern with Dimitri Terzakis and in Cologne and Karlsruhe with Wolfgang Rihm.
She has taught piano and music theory at the City Music School of Mannheim. Since 1993 she has taught ear training and arranging at the Mannheim Musikhochschule and is from time to time active as a music critic for the daily newspaper "Mannheimer Morgen."
She has won numerous composition prizes. Her compositions, now numbering over 80, have been performed at home and abroad.
1980: 3rd prize in the Composition Competition of Altleiningen/Rheinland-Pfalz
1997 Career grant from the city of Mannheim for contemporary composition
2001 1st prize in the Composition Competition of the Kempten/Allgäu Club
2004 2nd prize in the Gustav Mahler Composition competition of the city of Klagenfurt, Austria
Since 1998 she has regularly participated in the summer course "Composition for Wind Ensemble" in Marktoberdorf /Allgäu, Germany
2005:taught at the Mannheim "Summer Wind Academy" for composition/arranging
Andrea Csollánys sound language ranges from traditional harmony and avant-garde aesthetic, conditioned by the occasion and instrumentation of the particular compositions. Besides "Occasional and Fun Pieces" - composed for particular people or occasions or halls -, and the "pedagogic" works for young people she combines the modern and the traditional in her "serious" music
