Weckmann, Matthias 01/01/1619 - 02/24/1674

Matthias Weckmann (born before 1619, died 1674) was a German composer of the baroque period. He was born in Niederdorla. He studied with Heinrich Schütz in Dresden and Jacob Praetorius in Hamburg.



In 1638 he became organist at the court of the Elector in Dresden, from 1642 he held the same post at the princely court in Nykøbing, Denmark. After 1649 he returned to Dresden, and from 1655 until his death he functioned as organist of the St. Jacobi Church in Hamburg.
