Daniel Gottlob Türk (1756-1813) was a composer and music theorist, born on August, 10, 1756 in Claussnitz, near Chemnitz in modern-day Germany. He died on the 26th of August, 1813 in Halle an der Saale. He attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden and became a student of Homilius. Here he learned to play violin, piano, organ and almost all wind instruments. In 1772 he entered the University of Leipzig and became a student of Hiller, who asked him to perform as a violinist in his concerts. In 1776 he became a church musician in Halle and simultaneously a teacher at the Lutheran Gymnasium. In 1779 he became university music director and in 1787 organist at the Liebfrauenkirche, giving up his earlier positions. Here he performed until the end of his life.
